Happy Thanksgiving!!
It’s Turkey Day!!
I hope you all have a beautifully blessed and happy Thanksgiving day!!
I had a little bit of a wake up call yesterday as I was running around school, trying to get a few things in order before leaving to go home and be with the family. On my way to print my ticket, I stopped to chat with a friend and he asked where I’d be for the holiday. Excitedly, I said, “Home with the fam in Jersey!” He smiled and I asked him what he was doing. He said, “I’m going to a homeless shelter in Maine to give out food to those without a family.”
Instantly I thought – I was going home to eat and do nothing and this man was going to Maine to make someone’s life a little brighter.
As excited as I still was about leaving Medford, the few moments with my friend made me think. It’s so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of Thanksgiving, traveling to be with fam or friends, eating more than your stomach is meant to handle, getting the -itis early and waking up at 4am the next morning to battle thousands of others for Black Friday deals. And all that is cool, it’s part of the Thanksgiving experience. But today is mainly about about being grateful, for everything. For even just a breath, because there many people who didn’t make it to see November 26, 2009.
Anyways, all that to remind ourselves – enjoy the day! Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, whoever you’re with, enjoy it and be grateful. Give thanks for all of it. No matter your situation, there is someone out there who wishes they had what you have; let’s be thankful for everything we’ve been given, where we are right now and what’s to come.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
