Hmm…I should take a more hardline approach to this and speak about the politics but my first reaction to the story about South Africa’s President, Jacob Zuma, overcoming the no-confidence vote, called by the opposition on account of him having a child out of wedlock was: “Really? That’s what you called a no-confidence vote for?” On one hand, it’s refreshing to know that there are people out there actually outraged about it…

Big things poppin’ in Nigeria yesterday. With over 2000 strong, the peaceful protesters of the Enough is Enough movement marched to the National Assembly in Abuja to have their voices heard and presence felt. In addition to the fantastic efforts the group put in to have their demands heard on the state of Nigerian leadership, fuel security, the sufferings in Jos and electricity infrastructure, live feeds, tweets and facebook chatter allowed for people to tune in, voice their opinions and participate from all over the world. It was absolutely amazing.

Lots of buzz abound since Nigerian President, Umaru Yar’Adua returned home from Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. As newswires report, he wasn’t seen by anyone outside of his immediate circle. He was moved (some report, carried) from a plane to an ambulance and then directly to the presidential villa. What does this all mean for Nigeria?

Despite the tragedy and the immense loss that has been felt in Haiti in the aftermath of the earthquake, what has been good to see has been the mobilization of people all over the world. From celebs to little kids, people have mobilized to help and use their resources towards relief, however possible. Granted, some people’s actions have been QUITE questionable….but for the most part, capabilities have been pooled in a plethora of positive ways. By now you’ve heard about the earthquake that hit Haiti yesterday. Maybe you’ve seen the pictures, heard from friends and family or are glued to the news coverage of it. When stuff like this happens, its easy to start questioning – which, to be honest, is the first thing I did yesterday. But we can’t question – we have to take action, however possible. Fervant prayer, donations, time, supplies, whatever, let’s just not be passive because an earthquake rocking one part of the world, affects us all.

On Friday, President Obama hosted a Father’s Day Weekend BBQ on the lawn of the White House. In attendance were celebrity fathers, influential fathers from various communities and young men from local schools, all partaking in the festivities and joining in some father’s day fun.
