afiiveTV: Put it Down (Sasha feat. Dama Do Bling)

It's hard enough for female lyricists to see success in the music industry, so when two of Africa's finest join forces on one song, you've got to pay attention.  This hot collabo - from Nigeria's own Sasha and Mozambique's Dama do Bling - is a certified banger. Coming in at number four on afiive's The Flow is Put it Down.

afriTV: D'banj

It's a throwback Monday here at afiive. Playing again on afriTV is definitely a crowd favorite, "Fall in Love" by D'banj. Will never get tired of the cute pet names and the overall banger quality of the song. Press play and enjoy! Read more

afriTV: Asa

There are very few out there today I would call artists for the ages - you know, musicians whose work touches multiple generations, from the young to the mature.  But when I heard my Uncle sing along to Asa's "Jailer" a few weeks ago - and not miss a single beat or word - I figured: Asa is one of those artists. afriTV: I Am Not My Hair

Lately, a few celebrity women have decided to do some interesting things with their hair and the masses seem to be all up in arms.  From Amber Rose to Cassie, Lala to Solange, women are switching it up, doing something a little different. (Okay, in some instances, ALOT different).   Naturally, everyone has something to say.   Read more

afriTV - The Way You Make Me Feel

An MJ song that needs no introduction.  Another great video and the drama was super fly.  I remember watching this video back in the day with my little brother, mesmorized.

Fun Wikipedia Fact about the song: MJ wrote the song in response to his mother, Katherine, who requested a song with “a shuffling kind of rhythm."

afriTV - Bad

Second in our week-long tribute to the late great Michael Jackson is Bad.  You probably knew the video featured Wesley Snipes, but less known is the fact that it was directed by Martin Scorsese.  Scorcese is one of Hollywood's most famed directors, having directed Goodfellas, Gangs of New York, The Aviator and many many more.

The full-length story version of Bad is actually almost 18 minutes long, but length never really mattered when it came to Michael Jackson's music. You always wanted to see the whole thing. From the popping to the fake knife fight, the dramatic cinema and the edgy lyrics of Bad were testaments to MJ's magic.

First up: The song was fantastic...but the video? Perfection.  Check out Eddie Murphy, Iman, Magic Johnson and the man himself - Michael Jackson in Remember the Time.

afriTV: Naija Music Industry Gets Intl. Coverage

Hmm, seems like CNN has picked up on something we've known for quite some time: The Naija music scene is on fire right now!  Artists like Asa, P-Squared, TuFace, Timiya, Banky, Naeto C, D'banj and many others have taken traditional sounds and lyrics and have made it their own. With concert payments and CD sales in the upwards of hundreds of thousands of dollars, it's clear the fans like what they hear. Check out the CNN coverage above and for anyone looking for a good compilation of contemporary Naija music, download the Green October Project (Read more about it here)
