Wrap Up - Africa in 2010 FIFA World Cup

:: Loudly playing Shakira's Waka Waka World Cup Song in the background :: The World cup has been everything from amazing and historic, disappointing and near-stroke inducing. Africa started off strong with South Africa's draw with Mexico but the last nation standing isn't the Cup's host. It's West Africa's Golden Child, Ghana.  Despite the loss to Germany today, the team is heading into the round of 16, to play USA on June 26th.

Below is a quick summary of how the six african nations - South Africa, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Algeria and Ghana - have done so far in the games:

South Africa; Group A

1 W (vs. France) 1 L (vs. Uruguay) 1 D (vs. Mexico)

Had 4 points to tie with Mexico, but had 3 more goals against, compared to Mexico so ousted from a top 2 spot. Uruguay and Mexico are going to the Round of 16.

Nigeria, Group B 0 W 2 L (vs. Argentina, Greece) 1 D (vs. Korea)

Only 1 point. Thankfully Naija's GK saved the Eagles from what could have been a very embarrassing blowout against Argentina. Naija's out on account of too much pounded yam. Argentina and Korea moving forward.

Algeria; Group C

0 W 2 L (vs. Slovenia, USA) 1 D (vs. England)

Another 1 pointer. US & England moving forward.

Ghana; Group D

1 W (vs. Serbia) 1 D (vs. Australia) 1 L (vs. Germany)

4 points. Moving on to the Round of 16. First match against the US of A

Cameroon; Group E

0 W 2 L (vs. Japan, Denmark)

0 points. Playing the Netherlands tomorrow (6.24) @ 2:30 EST

Ivory Coast; Group G

0 W 1 L (vs. Brazil) 1 D (vs. Portugal)

1 Point, playing Korea on Friday, 6.25 @ 10:00 am EST
