afriTV: I Am Not My Hair
Lately, a few celebrity women have decided to do some interesting things with their hair and the masses seem to be all up in arms. From Amber Rose to Cassie, Lala to Solange, women are switching it up, doing something a little different. (Okay, in some instances, ALOT different). Naturally, everyone has something to say. (Especially about Solange!)
But contrary to popular belief, Amber Rose definitely didn’t start the trend. As Afrobella explains, the short hair may be less common, and however attractive, it’s nothing new. What’s more interesting is that when Halle and Rihanna cut their hair, most of the talk was super positive. No one said anything about them just looking for attention, being “insane,” etc. Not sure what the hoopla is BUT, in the “I have an opinion about it, too!” spirit, afiive says:
DO YOU! Hair is an expression of self, but it is not who you are. You shouldn’t hide behind your hair, it should enhance the person you are. If you want to cut it off, grow it long, perm it straight, afro it up, twist it, loc it, braid it, curl it, whatever, do you. Long as you are happy, your head is healthy and you can walk tall every day, get it!
That said, its only fitting that we play India.Arie’s “I Am Not Your Hair” Remix with Mr. Konvict Music himself – Akon.
Enjoy!

Do you! Praise God for hair…there are many women everyday who wished they had a crown of hair on their head to play it. Nevertheless, they are still bald and beautiful..and living their lives. No matter what, always be grateful.
The beautiful struggle continues.
Love Afro-Ghandi
lol, love the name, Afro-Ghandi!
and good point – all this fuss over hair and there are people in the world who wish they had even a little bit. A person’s crown should be cherished, in however way one desires.
BUT – to play devil’s advocate – don’t most men (and women) see women with short hair as “less attractive” or “less feminine?” I know a few chics who won’t go short for fear of not feeling attractive/looking like a girl.
Legitimate feeling, no?
