Father's Day BBQ at the White House

On Friday, President Obama hosted a Father's Day Weekend BBQ on the lawn of the White House.  In attendance were celebrity fathers, influential fathers from various communities and young men from local schools, all partaking in the festivities and joining in some father's day fun.

The BBQ followed a Fatherhood and Mentoring Town Hall Meeting in the East Room of the White House in which the President talked about the responsibilities of fathers and young men alike.
It's interesting, and inspiring, to see a man who grew up without a father, make it his mission to not only be there for his children, but also start a national conversation about something that affects a high percentage of families in our communities. From the President's opening remarks:
"For the young people who are here today, I just hope that the message that we're sending out about how important fathers are is something that you will internalize, because all of you are probably going to end up being fathers. And the time is now to start thinking about what that means in terms of responsibilities, what it means to be a man."
In continuing the conversation, it's important to reflect on what fatherhood means to you.  To me, it isn't simply just "being there." It's being there and doing what is necessary. Providing for, protecting and praying for your family. Your turn: What does fatherhood mean to you? More pics:
