I’m glad you finally posted on this! Speaking up and out is the only way to educate folks. If we don’t say anything this will forever be the perception of the Mother Continent — it’s time Hollywood and the media (and novels, and dinner table conversations …) correctly characterize the beautiful, smart and innovative folks living, working and loving from the Cape of Good Hope all the way up to the Straights of Gibraltar.

I haven’t watched the whole movie either so maybe my two cents isn’t worth much. But I will say this. If all the communities were depicted in their historically cultural context for this scene, then the scene as you described it would be funny. But if all other societies were depicted as modern and only this particular one left in its historical context then one has to wonder, why the disconnect? Is it easier to sell this image of Africa than what it is now? There are still villages of course but hut numbers and being eaten by lions is a bit of a stretch for any society. I will be optimistic about this and say that the scene was probably created by someone with a general ignorance about Africa who simply wished to be humourous and funny but not to offend. That said, when taken in this context, it isn’t really that funny now is it?
